Meet the Next Generation of Bleeding Disorders Research Leaders!


The National Bleeding Disorders Foundation (NBDF) has awarded six exceptional researchers and healthcare professionals with prestigious fellowships to advance bleeding disorders research and care. These awards are part of NBDF's $22 million investment in groundbreaking research toward finding cures for inheritable blood and bleeding disorders. Congratulations to our award recipients!
 

Judith Graham Pool Postdoctoral Research Fellows

  • Dr. Huong Chau (Stanford School of Medicine) will investigate inhibitor development mechanisms in hemophilia B, focusing on prevention and treatment strategies.
  • Dr. Marisa Brake (Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center) will study tissue factor's role in blood clotting and bleeding disorders to identify new therapeutic targets.
     

Excellence Fellowship Recipients

  • Louise Baca, RN (MaineHealth Bleeding Disorders) received the Nursing Excellence Fellowship to develop comprehensive training programs for rural healthcare providers.
  • CC Cook (Primary Children's Hospital) earned the Social Work Excellence Fellowship to address care gaps for individuals with heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding in Utah.
  • John DeLoach, PT was awarded the Physical Therapy Excellence Fellowship to study exercise's impact on vascular access in hemophilia patients.
     

Career Development Award

  • Dr. Bhavya Doshi (Emory University) received the Sanofi-sponsored Career Development Award to research immune mechanisms behind inhibitor development in hemophilia A, focusing on biomarkers and novel treatments.
     

These fellowships support early-career researchers and clinicians who are driving innovation in bleeding disorders treatment and care. "Together, we're not just funding research—we're funding hope," says Maria Santaella, Vice President of Research Strategy.
