This week, Congress passed a bill, the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” that will have widespread impacts on the bleeding disorders community – together with millions of others across the country who get health insurance through Medicaid or the Affordable Care Act Marketplaces.

NBDF and many partners have been raising alarms and advocating to oppose the health insurance policies in the bill for months – and we are grateful for the hundreds of community members who attended Washington Days or in the months since have written or called their Members of Congress to tell their stories.  We know our advocacy helped to mitigate some of the provisions in the bill, even if we couldn’t get all of the harmful policies removed.

We recognize that many community members may be worried about whether they will be able to maintain their insurance coverage.  I want to reassure you: NBDF will continue to advocate vigorously at both the federal and state levels as the law moves toward implementation. And we will work to provide outreach and education to help community members get and keep health insurance.

There will be much more to come in the coming months. For now, we will close with a recognition that this is a resilient community that has overcome countless insurance-related obstacles in the past. NBDF will always stand with you.
