The National Bleeding Disorders Foundation (NBDF) offers multiple funding opportunities for bleeding disorders researchers across all career stages and disciplines. Through the Judith Graham Pool Postdoctoral Research Fellowships, the Sanofi-sponsored Career Development Award, the Takeda-sponsored Clinical Fellowship, and the Excellence Fellowships, NBDF’s grant programs support diverse research needs, including basic science, clinical projects, and innovative technologies. Project proposals in alignment with NBDF’s Bleeding Disorders Research Collaborative community-define research priorities will be considered highly competitive.

NBDF’s Research Funding Opportunities

Judith Graham Pool (JGP) Postdoctoral Research Fellowships
Since 1972, the JGP Fellowship has provided support for basic science and pre-clinical research in bleeding disorders. JGP research fellowship award projects have contributed to the development of safer concentrates, enhanced methods of testing and screening, and have laid the groundwork for current advances in gene therapy for hemophilia.

Funding: $52,000/year for two years

Topics: Permissible proposal topics include pre-clinical or basic science research on the biochemical, genetic or hematologic aspects of hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, or other inherited bleeding disorders. Other topics might include focus on joint disease/orthopedics, women’s health, or other therapeutic modalities pertaining to bleeding disorders.

The deadline for letters of intent is February 23, 2026. Learn more about eligibility and the application process.

Sanofi-sponsored Career Development Award (CDA)

The Sanofi-sponsored Career Development Award supports mid-stage career investigators at the assistant professor level or above who have demonstrated a commitment to bleeding disorders research. CDA awardees pursue innovative research in bleeding disorders at the subcellular, cellular, animal, and human/patient levels, in areas such as gene therapy, inhibitors and synthetic replacement factors, clotting factor proteins and delivery systems, and other alternative treatment strategies. NBDF is grateful for the generous support of Sanofi for making this program possible.

Funding: $70,000/year for three years

Topics: Proposal topics include, but are not limited to, the development of novel technologies and/or therapies to advance the field of bleeding disorders research.

The deadline for letters of intent is February 23, 2026. Learn more about eligibility and the application process.

NBDF’s Excellence Fellowships

NBDF’s Excellence Fellowships provide support for nurses, social workers, and physical therapists working in a clinical treatment center and who generate outcomes-based data to improve our understanding of bleeding disorders and community care.

Nursing Excellence Fellowship

Funding: $15,000 for 12-18 months

Topics: Current topics of interest include but are not limited to the development of clinical pathways, measurable outcomes in bleeding disorders care, service utilization, epidemiology, and patient and community education tools. Other topics include rehabilitation, therapeutic modalities, psychosocial issues, women's health in bleeding disorders, liver disease in clients with bleeding disorders and HIV/AIDS. The objectives of the fellowship are to improve the delivery of care and expand the knowledge of nursing science surrounding bleeding disorders.

The deadline for letters of intent is February 23, 2026. Learn more about eligibility and the application process.

Physical Therapy Excellence Fellowship

OPENING SOON

Takeda-sponsored Clinical Fellowship

NBDF offers the Takeda-sponsored Clinical Fellowship Program to provide support to physicians who show an interest in dedicating their careers to the care of patients with bleeding disorders. This program is intended to increase the number of skilled clinicians committed to providing comprehensive care to our community by providing hands-on clinical training and preparation for academic careers in bleeding disorders research. Mentored training takes place at highly qualified hemophilia and/or thrombophilia treatment centers across the country. NBDF is grateful for the generous support of Takeda for making this program possible.

Funding: $100,000/year for two years

The cycle for this fellowship will open in early 2026. Qualified applicants must submit an application on behalf of themselves and their institution must likewise submit an application if they have not been previously approved by NBDF. Learn more about eligibility and the application process.
