Access to treatment and care is one of the most important aspects of having a bleeding disorder. Unfortunately, navigating insurance issues can be difficult and require paying attention to your plan. The National Bleeding Disorders Foundation has resources to help you make sense of your insurance, and fights for legislation that protects access to care on both the state and federal level.
What Resources Does NBDF Have to Help Navigate Health Insurance?
It’s important to understand your health insurance, whether you have private insurance, a marketplace plan, or Medicare or Medicaid. Understanding the terminology within those plans is also important. NBDF has resources that can help you understand what your plan provides.
How Copay Accumulators Can Affect People with Bleeding Disorders
NBDF health insurance practices known as copay accumulator adjuster programs (CAAPs) because they can make it harder for patients to afford the treatments they need to stay healthy. Learn more about copay accumulator adjuster programs.
How To Be an Advocate
If you or your family or friends have a bleeding disorder, you can make a difference by making your voice heard. Your local NBDF chapter may have annual advocacy days, where they travel to the state capitol and meet with legislators to discuss issues that matter to the bleeding disorders community in their state. Find your local NBDF chapter to get involved.
You can also email your representative in Congress asking them to take actions on issues important to the bleeding disorders community. NBDF has an easy-to-use tool that you can use to contact them.
Lastly, share your story with us! At NBDF, we need to hear from people who are experiencing issues with access to health care or problems with their insurance so we can take action.
