About the Speakers

Dr. Brian Branchford treats children and young-to-middle-aged adults with bleeding and clotting disorders, with a special interest in factor X deficiency at the Versiti Blood Research Institute in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He recently completed a K08 mentored research award from the National Institutes of Health for a basic and translational research project on signal transduction in platelet activation and thrombus formation in the presence of inflammation, work that he continues at Versiti. He has held local and national leadership roles in prevention efforts to decrease the incidence of hospital-acquired venous thromboembolism in children, and he is a founding member of the Children’s Healthcare Advancements in Thrombosis (CHAT) clinical research consortium, which focuses on risk factors and prevention strategies for hospital-acquired thrombosis in children.

Ariel Loraine has severe factor X deficiency and has been on prophylactic treatment since birth. She is earning her PhD in pharmacology and neuroscience to help others in need of effective medications.
